Treshold Concept: Information creation is a process

Information creation is a process

How does text messaging affect teen literacy:

Formats sources:

Newspaper articles
Social media
Books
Academic journal
Internet

Newspaper  articles - contains current information as it is published daily, weekly, monthly or quarterlying, it goes straight to the point and easy to understand as it shows images that goes with the text.  Students can track development of the story as it unfolds.  Below is the example of the article about texting, published in January.

texting and teenage literacy
The advent of cellular phones has undoubtedly revolutionized the communication process to a large extent, adding to that the burgeoning social media sites also changed the way one used to communicate. With the introduction of text messaging feature, conversation over text messages become popular among a large number of people.  But this can cause a great harm to their education as some teenagers tend to write the same way they text messages. They cannot help it because after texting messages for a long period of time day in day out, the writing style is stored in their brain permanently and they commit the mistakes without their knowledge.

Social Media - gives information from other people's point of view through debates and comments.  It give teenagers a platform to comment on the topic, and they can also follow the experts and get in touch with them.

Books gives in depth and broader information about the topic e.g.  students the background information, causes, effects and even recommendation, depends on the topic. Although books may not always contain the most current information, the information on it is factual (academic or non-fiction)

Academic Journals
These are collection of articles written by scholars in an academic or proffessional field.  Journals are reliable and contains original research because they pree viewed before they are published.  Journals are written by specialist or experts in a particular field, for example in this research topic students can go to journal of community or technology.

Internet
With critical evaluation of the information found on internet, it is a reliable source and the students can get information relevant to their topics.  Internet educates and it has answers for everthing.  Students can check what other researcher says about that specific topics.  Information on internet is not limited, it can be found in any form e.g. videos, text, images and etc.

Transforming Information.
Newspaper to Social Media
Whatever news published will also be available is social networks, people would debate or comment on the article.  I found one article on the guardian newspaper that was published on the 5 October 2013 with the title "Teenagers and social networking - it might actually be good for them".  The article show different social networks where people can post comments.

Students can open a group on social media and post this article and allow people to comment.

Academic journals to blog and interviews
Students would put the topic in the blog and invite the specialist in the subject and other people to comment.  Interviews with the specialist in a particular field.

Internet to a journal
Students will use the Internet to get the collection  of information on the subject.  Put all the informaion together and write a journal.  Information found on the internet should be evaluated as the completed journal will be sent for pree review.

Reflection
I had to find the link between two sources that I want to transform although I was not sure whether to choose form the 5 chosen sources or any.
